Zenzele Feeding Program
The Zenzele Feeding Program is an additional service we provide for the local community at Nomthandazo Children's Care Centre.
The Zenzele Informal Settlement has arisen due to the non-delivery of low cost housing during the RDP program. No accurate head count can be given of the number of dwellers in this settlement because of the constant influx of new dwellers. A head count in excess of 5000 dwellers would not be an unrealistic estimate.
It is impossible for us to provide for the needs of everyone in this community and as a result we established a soup kitchen at the Nomthandazo Children's Care Centre (which lies adjacent to Zenzele) where we provide soup for up to 100 families per day. The soup kitchen has been in operation since February 2003. Most of the clothing and medicines we receive from donors is also given to families within the settlement who most need it.
Once we have built the community hall at the care centre we will embark on a program to assist the Zenzele community in a much more effective manner.
